Pendulums and Snowballs

Some things in life naturally balance out – pendulums swing back and forth.

One day you’re up, the next you’re down. Your mood, your emotions, your energy – they fluctuate, but eventually, they neutralise.

But then there are things that are snowballs. They don’t balance themselves out. They roll, they grow, and they compound – for better or worse.

If you’re hit with a professional life setback, and that makes you spiral into self-destructive habits, and then your personal life suffers because of that, and then you indulge in more self-destructive habits – you’re setting a snowball in motion. And once it gains momentum, it won’t stop on its own.

The same works in reverse. If you read 10 minutes a day, write one page, or make small efforts towards a skill – at first, it won’t seem like much. But with time, that snowball makes your growth inevitable.

Pendulums correct themselves. Snowballs require conscious effort.

So don’t judge a day. But be conscious of what you do daily.
