Can Money Fix Attitude?

Got a call from a bank sales rep yesterday.

“Sir, your eligibility for credit card has been approved.”

Wait, what? I didn’t even apply. I don’t even want it.

But she made sure to sound like it was my privilege to be “approved” for all these benefits. Even when I said no – twice – she refused to put the phone down.

Classic brand erosion.

“But Harjas, they’ve been pressurised by the senior management to do that.”

I don’t know, man.

There are Uber drivers who misbehave. There are delivery partners who won’t stop making calls. There are sales executives who prioritise distributors over the company they work for.

And then there are those from the same companies who are just the opposite. The 5-stars, the tips, the promotions – all theirs for the taking.

Can higher salaries or commissions really fix someone’s attitude?

Would that Uber driver suddenly start keeping his car clean if he got a higher cut?

I’m not so sure.

There are A players and C players – not in terms of skill, but in attitude. And that sometimes makes all the difference in the rewards they get.
